What is a laser?

Centennial Valley Animal Hospital now utilizes a laser when performing curtain types of surgery on your pet.  There are many advantages with using a laser over a conventional scalpel.  The following are a few questions and answers regarding laser surgery.

Why laser surgery?

Less pain, less bleeding, less swelling

What does this mean for my pet?

Reduced risk of infection, quicker return to normal activities.

Are lasers new?

They have been used on humans for over 30 years.  Laser can be used for a
 wide variety of surgeries, including spays, neuters, cyst and tumor removals.

What is a laser?

A laser is a device that generates an intense beam of light at a specific wavelength.  The surgical laser is a CO2 laser that produces an invisible beam of light that vaporizes the water normally found in the skin and other soft tissue.  The laser can be precisely controlled so surrounding tissue is not affected.
